Shoulder Chic
Ah, the allure of bare skin. It’s a definite staple of summer. In fact it seems the higher the temps, the more skin you’re bound to see. One of the biggest trends of the last few seasons has certainly been all about showing skin, but in a subtle way. I’m speaking about the wildly popular off-the-shoulder, cold-shoulder and one-shoulder styles you’ve seen. Whether a shirt, romper, sweater or dress, it’s everywhere and I’m all the way here for it. There’s just something about it that’s the perfect combination of sassy, chic, flirty and sexy all rolled into one. It’s a look just about anyone can wear and successfully pull off regardless of body type or size. Even if you’re not entirely comfortable with the more body-conscious/barely there trends that seem to be synonymous with summer, it’s a subtle way to add a little bit of “sexy” to just about any ensemble and be right on trend.
I recently gave the trend a try with this 2-piece ensemble, a gift from my husband that he found on www.liligal.com . He did good, right? And with no help/hints from me! (lol ladies, you know how we do 😉 I decided to rock it on Father’s Day to let him know how much I loved it. To say I felt flirty, feminine and fabulous in the outfit would be an understatement. I think that’s one of the things I love so much about fashion; its ability to make you feel a particular way and also help express the way you feel. I absolutely love the one-shoulder top and the fact that the skirt had, not one, but TWO slits AND pockets?! Well, that just about took me over the edge.
I tried about 3 different pairs of shoes on with it, but finally decided to go with these heeled sandals from Charlotte Russe. I then opted to break up the black and gray with a bit of leopard print (clutch found on eBay last year) and added some gold accessories to complete the look. Got the funky, edgy necklace on sale from www.disclothesure.com, a new online boutique based in New Jersey, owned/operated by a young Black woman. I’m all about supporting my sistahs and she carries lots of cool, trendy pieces that I really love. Look for posts later on with a couple other pieces I snagged from her site.

Bare one shoulder or two, the choice is totally yours and you really can’t go wrong. Just pick what works for you and makes you feel fabulous. That is, after all, what it’s all about;)
